Name: Set
Sex: Male
Domain: Storms, Arid Desert, Strength, Outsiders/Foreigners
Powers: Set can control winds and cause thunderstorms and sandstorms in the desert. He is known for tossing obstacle after obstacle in the way of mortals in order to toughen them up. He creates external obstacles to remove internal obstacles.
(Example: Mortal has a bit of a habit in letting people run her over, so he influences those around her to give her a hard time until she finally has enough and starts standing up for herself.)
Pantheon: Egyptian
History:
One of Geb and Nut's 5 children, Set was ruler of Upper Egypt before Heru-sa-Aset earned the kingship of the two lands. He killed his brother Wesir as a necessary "evil," setting off the string of events that culminated in Wesir becoming ruler of the Duat (Egyptian underworld) and Heru-sa-Aset becoming the ruler of the unified lands of Egypt (after many, many Contendings between the two because Set knew the kid would never be a good ruler as long as he was still hanging onto mama Aset's apron strings).
Personality:
Set applies the same method of "tough love" to his followers as he did his nephew centuries ago--breaking them down so that they can rise up stronger and meet challenges head-on. He's also a big supporter of the "if you want something done right, do it yourself" train of thought, so he is not big on intercession on a mortal's behalf. If a follower really needs to know how to get through something, he'll let her know, but it's up to the mortal to get off of her butt and DO it. And if she won't...well, he'll just make it harder until she's finally pushed into doing something about it. He's a bit of an ass like that.
Appearance:
Set is a tall, muscular man with dark, almost black skin. His head, also black, is that of an unknown animal, presumed extinct, with tall squared-off ears and a long, tapered snout. It's his hair that's his most noticeable feature, though, as he's one of the few Egyptian deities that are natural readheads. One of his epithets is even "Set of the Red Hair."
