Humans. How could they prove Darwin right and wrong at once? It was a question that would probably always perplex her.
She had done her best, given the rules of the Olympians, to make herself heard. She had shouted at the mortals to cease their senseless wars, to disarm the bombs that devastated Gaia, but no one had heard. No one had been able to hear.
Nike, the ever fickle goddess of victory, had seen there could be no winner, and had retreated to places unknown, leaving her, Athena, to mourn as Gaia was torn apart and humans died by the millions.
Ares and Eris had become drunk on the results of war, Persephone and Hades had suffered from the influx of souls, and Selene could only weep as she continued her unbreakable cycle across the sky. And Nyx.... well, who knew what the enigmatic, primordial goddess thought.
With no one to hear her and no worthy champions to advise, Athena had descended into despair and boredom as she waited, perhaps fruitlessly, for the chance to help set things to rights.
She sighed, and put aside her shuttle. Olympus was covered in her tapestries now; there was no need for another, really. But what else was there to do besides sleep?

(OOC: very poetic)
Heavy footsteps could be heard approaching Athena from behind, the rattling of weapons as they clanked together at his back, or could it be the multiple swords at his hip. Either way at the moment he truly looked the part of who he was supposed to be, he was Ares, God of War.
"Athena! So that is where you are hiding, how is my second favorite sister?"
He wasn't saying that to insult her, he was saying that off the technicallity that his wife is also his sister. He always associated the goddess of battle with his war games, no matter how many times he is eternally rebuked for this line of thinking.

(OOC: Thanks. ^n_n^)
"She is afraid you will never learn manners," Athena said dryly, rising from her stool and brushing thread bits from her skirt. "To what do I owe the honor?"
She could have shouted him out of her quarters, or been more scornful, but that was pointless. Ares most likely had a reason to be here, even though, in her opinion, it was probably a bad one. She would listen and keep boredom at bay for a bit.

Ares basically ignores her statement about manners, he feels he is allowed where he wants whenever he wants. He is the God of War, the pantheon as a whole outside of Zeus should kneel before him and his position in his honest opinion.
"I have come to tell you that our old friends of Asgard have caused a ruckus in Russia. I hear one of the followers of my sister is down there as well. I would hate for there to be problems, wanna give me some help?"
They can turn things around for the Russians, maybe even convert more to the cause of Olympus. That will make it so they will both turn back Asgard and gain influence for themselves as long as they make thier presence known.

Praise Gaia! A legitimate chance to leave Olympus! But of course Athena held herself in check. Ares had to have an ulterior motive, and she wanted to be sure their actions would be justified, and worth expending their energy for. "What is the cause of the disturbance, and why did it occur?" she asked, even as her eyes strayed to where she had hung her helmet, breastplate, shield and spear.

Ares always has an ulterior motive, usually it is just because he likes winning at all costs. As far as he sees it, that little prophet of his former wife earned that little patch of Russia, and as such Olympus deserves the whole thing.
"Asgard has made a deal with another pantheon to claim Russia, the problem is, we have a stake in that land now as well, and it looks like the Vikings are going to make no hesitation to swallow it up."
He pointed his spear at one of his battlemaps he brought, signifying the border of Olympus into Russia. That is what they had to work with, although if they can somehow expend some influence over some high ranking military members, they could perhaps spread faster.

"Imbeciles," Athena muttered. Whatever Ares' motives, there was definitely a just cause in this: Protect whatever innocent humans were left. And if he did anything stupid, she could run him through. She strode to the wall and began strapping on her breastplate, putting on her helmet next. "I assume you wish to leave as soon as possible."

Ares saw her getting her armor on and preparing for battle, and he could do nothing short of grin at her as she did. This was his kind of woman, but that is also what he said about his other two female friends. He tended to believe that all kinds of women were his kind of woman.
"Its good to see you in your old armor again, and yes, let us make the trek to Earth. It is best to nip this little incursion in the bud."
He was already fully armed and ready to go. He wasn't ready for Athena to be ready to interfere directly, but that was even better for him. To sit on the sidelines and just help the army he was behind through miracles was always so boring. This way he could slit some throats first hand.

Athena slid her shield over her left arm, flexing her muscles against the old but well cared for straps, testing the fit and feel. Her mother's work had been impeccable before her birth; it was impeccable now. And with Medusa's head nailed to it, it was deadly.
The goddess picked up her spear, flicking a nail across the head and nodding at the sharpness. "I am ready," she declared. "Let us go."

Ares nodded and began leading the way to descend Olympus. It is then that he could begin his push against Asgard. If his father wouldn't do anything about this encroachment then he would, and be made a hero amongst Gods.
"Then let us go, and assert ourselves against those that would push against us."
With that he slapped on his helmet and prepared for war. This will be the first stage of the future. Olympus is rising again and nobody would stand in its way this time around.

Athena followed silently, wondering why Ares had not approached anyone else. Artemis and Apollo, with their arrows of soft death and painful death respectively, would have been a wise addition should long-range attacks be needed. Dionysus, Demeter, Hera and Hestia were ill-suited for battle, of course. But Poseidon and Zeus.... well, Zeus would be no use.
"Why do we not have backup?"
