Carlisle slips off his shoes and walks down to the class area from his living space upstairs. Picking up a broom, he sighs and begins to sweep the floor of the small kendo dojo near one of the remaining cities that he calls home. Though certainly not going to get rich off of it, and his landlord never seemed to decide completely how much the building should cost, the young man is generally content. For a while there had been a sharp decline in students, and Carlisle prays to any god who would listen that a person who was willing to pay would call or come in to learn.
"I can't afford to keep this place open for much longer with no pupils, but I don't want to give this up. I already miss hearing my nickname of Kenji and the thrill of seeing someone perform a move correctly for the first time..." he murmurs to himself.

A man came walking by, perhaps a tourist of sorts, but in any case he seemed very interested in this little building. With a stop he walked up to the front door.
"What the heck is this place? You don't see much of this in the cities anymore. Looks like a man barely holding onto a dream, its almost sad."
He wasn't one to not be blunt and forward with what he said. If the man shooed him away then so be it, it isn't like he needed to be here he simply was interested. He hasn't seen one of these since he left China, and even then they were sparse near the city areas, and were right out in the areas devoid of Japanese influence.

Carlisle smiles slightly, and puts down his broom before openning the door with a small bow. "This is... I guess you could say this is what my dream of running a kendo dojo can show for itself. You're welcome to come in, I just wish you could have seen it before the war. This place was much more lively then, but with the war over and all the destruction, no one wants to do anything involving weapons anymore, regardless of excerise and concentration value."

The man looks around, poking at a couple of items on display, looking over the training weapons that were left out. He scratched his chin in admiration of the way they were crafted and made.
"Its a real shame too. I am also in the buisiness of weapons you could say. Although sales have went down in America I have cornered new markets since the war. Maybe you should try moving somewhere new with your buisiness. Or you could just give up, you seem to be doing well at that."
He shoots a skeptical look at the man he was talking to. Maybe he could just take a couple of the blades and go with them. He does like the ornamental ones that he makes a lot of nowadays but he will almost never say no to the classics.

Carlisle picks up one of the swords that was behind the training weapons and slowly unsheaths it, examining the blade as he thinks. This sword appeared handmade, though shorter than the katanas that made up the other live blades on display. "New markets, hm?" he finally comments and sheathes the sword. "I will never give up the sword, though it may well be time to move on from this place... Is there something that interests you about those ones more than the others?"
Oddly, almost none of the blades were ornamental, and all are very well taken care of. The ornamental ones are seperate from the others, and seem to be just to fill in unused space on the shelf.

The man simply rolled his eyes at the question, but was facing away so that it wasn't seen overtly. After regaining his composure he turned back to the man who was adressing him.
"Yeah... they pay me and the others don't. I live of the market philosophy bud."
He really didn't think the concept in itself was that difficult, but sometimes you have to beat it into the skulls of purists. And this man seemed as dreamy eyed as any disallusioned child he has ever met.

"'Market philosphy'? Are you refering to giving up the chance to decide one's own future for a handfull of money, and pleasing others?"
His brown eyes narrow slightly, and focus directly on the man rather than seeming to look through the other.

Faren just shot a critical eye over to the man at his most incredulous response. It seems Carlisle is even more duped into the idea of a perfect reality then most, or at least Faren believes so.
"Kid, having ideals is great when you are little, it makes you work to be the best you could be. There comes a time though that you have to live in the real world, and son, money makes the world go around."
Plus he said it himself, couldn't he find some sort of pleasure in the idea of pleasing others? People had to make a living and this guy had a one way ticket to living in an allyway if he keeps this up.

The instructer tightens his grip, not seeming to notice or care that his knuckles are nearly turning white.
"So that's it? Promises, devotion, and willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure that my pupils leave with more than what they brought in mean nothing if I'm not thinking first of my own wallet? Is that what you're trying to suggest?"

Faren looks at the man like he is crazy. In truth he is just beginning to sound like a broken record. Another outburst and the smith would just be inclined to pick up and leave.
"Those are all great goals on the secondary, but you have to survive in order to accomplish them. Nobody will take lessons from the swordmaster living in the box by the river."
He should ask for payment for this alone, if he gets through the man's thick skull he would be saving his life. Perhaps he is letting himself slip, or maybe he is just having fun making the man grit his teeth in rage.

For a moment he stands completely still, and does nothing to make clear whether he is seething or thinking. Then his posture droops slightly when he sighs after a few moments. He feels like he'd be losing much of his dream, much of what made this so special to him, and he loathes that feeling; however, he knows that no one would.
"...no one even takes lessons now," he murmurs, though not as a reply, simply accidently saying what he was thinking. "What is the point of risking everything for someone who may never come back? Maybe I should go..."

Faren made his way through the facility, a training sword rested firmly in his hand. He didn't even care what the man would think about the smith handling such property. He wasn't planning on stealing it anyway, just enjoyed the feel.
"I never said give up ya idiot, I just said make things easier on yourself. So things didn't work out here, fine, expand your venues. Some people kill to be able to see the world and here you are whining now that you have the opprotunity."
The man acted like his dreams were being stomped upon, like people had less of a heart in Europe then they did here in the United States. Perhaps he can take things back to Japan where the techniques originated, make a grass roots effort to evolve his skills.

Carlisle replies firmly with a glare, "You weren't listening very well if that's your reply. 'Maybe I should go...' means going anywhere not just giving up. No one is taking lessons at this particular place, that is already established by simply watching how empty this place is. Money is being spent that's accomplishing nothing regarding money or otherwise right now, which is why there You call me an idiot but need to clean out your own ears. If you're going to reply, at least give sign that you actually listened to what the other person said or you'll be the one who should be called an idiot!"
