The wanderer looks puzzled for a moment then laughs. "Oh really? Even you? Hm... Tell me anything you feel like telling me that you think would help me decide, please? I was going to ask the local priests about the gods here, but asking a goddess might get a more interesting answer."
"Or get me smited... but I have wondered what that would feel like, so interesting either way."

"We do not want blame or accusations; sometimes we do not even want thanks," Persephone answered after some thought. "We want to be acknowledged as doing our fated jobs to the best of our abilities, and remembered through deed and sacrifices. Flowers, candles, incense, burnt offerings, it matters not. Those offerings alert us to a mortal's desires, and we answer the best we can." She nodded to Raido again. "We look after those who honor us, again, to the best of our abilities, and we do not always ask much of them."

Raido looked interested, then tapped his foot as he thought. Then he asked, "What if I decided to follow you? What would you do?"

A soft glow seemed to come over Persephone's features, and she smiled radiantly. "I would thank you, and ask for an offering of incense once a week," she announced, touching Raido shoulder in gratitude. "I think, perhaps, my husband would be inclined to grant you a boon as well."

"I can do that, and your welcome." Raido laughed then added, "Of cource, I'm the type who try to find a different kind every week just to keep for boring you, but that's not too bad."
Remembering the second part, he went from looking pleased and slightly amused to looking puzzled, "He would? Do people tend to follow others more readily than the two of you? I can't see why people would pay more mind to one type over another; and what's not to like about an Immortal or two who knows how to keep the status conveyed by that from inflating their ego too much?"

"People are superstitious of death gods," Persephone said with a shrug. "That is all." She looked up to the sky, blinking in surprise: Nyx was spreading her black silk in setting Helios' wake, and soon Selene would drive her milk-white chariot across the sky.
"I will have to leave in a moment," the underworld queen told Raido. "If you return to this place in two days, I will take you with me to see my husband, and the three judges would answer any questions you have."

"I'll see you then," Raido replied. "Have fun wherever you're going."
He gave a little wave, then decided to at least attempt to be formal and inclined his head in a semblance of a bow for a few seconds. __ Two days later, the wanderer waited at the spot which he'd been told to return to. He straightened his jacket before running a hand through his hair in an almost self-conscious manner.
Remembering the look in the innkeeper's face when Raido was caught making an offering of incense in a non-smoking room causes the wanderer to giggle softly. Technically, there was nothing saying that burning incense as well as just smoking was against the rules, but it seemed like a better idea to move to a room that allowed smoking after that. He can be obliging when he wants to be.

What looked like an orb of light floated into view, touching down on the ground a few feet away and stretching upward, taking on the form of a woman in silhouette. Abruptly the light vanished, and Persephone stood there in a black silk dress, her black shawl, and jewels all over her person. There was a sort of radiance to her, but not enough to blind or hurt.
"Welcome, Raido," she said with a smile. "Thank you for the incense. My husband and I found it pleasing." She arranged the shawl more carefully around her shoulders and motioned up the trail. "Are you ready to go?"

"You're welcome..." He smiles at her thanks, then looks up the trail for a moment. "Yes, and don't worry about losing me. I can follow someone just as steadily as their shadow when I want to, which I do."

Persephone smiled, and lead the way into the cave that was the passage to the underworld. It was dark and the path was uncertain, but the goddess' presence seemed to project a light that brought Raido farther and farther down.
Past the souls of the deceased they went, across the rivers that Persephone stilled with her power and allowed Raido to walk across.

Raido follows at a slightly slower pace than usual due to looking around to see whatever was revealed by the light, and to make sure that the path would hold his weight. Once in a while, he squinted in the direction of the spirits to see if he recognised any of them. Just a glance back at him would reveal his curiosity.
"Oh wow..." the wanderer breathed.

Persephone smiled slightly. Mortals often reacted with awe when entering the underworld. "Up ahead is the River Styx. I'm sorry, but we'll have to ride on Charon's ferry," she explained as they moved deeper still. "I cannot influence the water of the Styx."
She waved aside some wandering souls and beckoned for Raido to follow. "Charon!" she called.
The ferryman looked up from arguing with one such soul. "Lady Persephone," he greeted, sounding irritable.
"My follower and I need a ride across," the goddess announced, holding out two bits of jewelry of exceptional quality. "Here is your payment. Please take care; he is alive."
Charon snorted, taking the jewelry. "He just better not sink my ferry."
Persephone nodded to Raido. "Let's continue."

"I'm not that heavy!" Raido protests to Charon. Turning to Persephone, he says lightly, "Ladies first. I think this is going to be one of those times I need to mind what I say almost moreso than what I do or think."

"You are heavy," Charon insisted as Persephone stepped onto the ferry. "This boat's not meant to carry the living, it's meant to carry the dead. The living makes it sink."
"It will not sink far, Charon," the goddess assured the ferryman, and with much grumbling, Charon helped Raido aboard. The raft did sink, water lapping over the edges, but as soon as Charon started pushing them along with his staff, it did not prove to be a problem.
