Standing at the head of a picnic table, a man pulls a deck of cards from his pocket, and removes the case. After shuffling the deck with several- increasingly differcult- florishes, he puts the deck, and begins to practice a few magic tricks. It doesn't seem like he minds that people might stop and watch him practice; maybe that is because having an audience informally might make the practicing more similar to the real thing.
"Two. T-w-o," he says, and turns a card over with each letter. The card showing when he finishes spelling is the two of spades. Smiling now, he continues, "Three. T-h-r-e-e."
Once the cards are once again turned over, the three of hearts is showing.

Three red haired children run over, a boy and girl of about twelve and a younger girl with purple coloured eyes. "Are you doing magic?" the boy asks.
"Can we watch?" the youngest asks.

"Yes, just a bit to practice before I start thinking of where to put on a show." The man smiles, and continues, "Go ahead. Here, I have an idea. Why don't you try one at a time? Just say the number that comes after the last one and then spell it while turning a card over for each letter you say. The last card face up will have the number spelled on it. Who wants to be first?"

"I will!" annouces Aideen, scrambling up onto the bench to see better. "Four! F-O-U-R!" she annouces, turning over a card with each letter.

The last card turned over is the four of diamonds, and Brandy says to Aideen, "There you go, the four of diamonds." To the two about the same age, he asks, "Do either of you want to try?"

"Sure," replies Ann, the older girl. "Five. F-i-v-e." She looks at the last card to see what she got.

The last card from when Ann was spelling out five is the five of spades. "Looks like I shuffled just right this time." "And there is the five of spades. What do you think? Isn't this an interesting way to pass the time?"

"It's rigged," Tuono starts flatly. "It has to be. I bet you've just got all the cards pre-aranged in some way so that you'll always get it right." Aideen looks shocked and Ann scowls at her brother.
"It is so magic!" Aideen shouts, stamping her foot. "It is! It is! It is!"

Brandy sighs and looks at each of the children one at a time. Gently, he says to Aideen, "It's alright, there's nothing to shout about." To Tuono, he continues calmly, "It is whatever you believe it is... And just what is the harm in letting your sisters have a little fun?"

"See?" Aideen says smugly. "It is too magic." She sticks her tounge out at her brother who pulls a face back at her.
"It's just fun Tuono," Ann adds. "Come on, try it."
"It's just a stupid card trick," Tuono replies, walking off to another bench and pulling out his book again. Aideen and Ann exchange looks.
"Boys," they say together in a long suffering tone. Aideen looks up at Brandy.
"Can you do other magic, or just that?"

"I can do an other one." Brandy smiles then gathers up the cards again and hands the deck to Aideen. "Pick a card, any card you'd like when I close my eyes and put it face down on top of the deck. Then shuffle the deck before giving it back and I'll see if I can find your card."

"Okay!" Aideen looks through the cards then when Brandy closes his eyes, she picks out the queen of hearts, puts it on top of the deck and shuffles it with Ann's help. "Done!" she annouces.

(I forgot how the trick works, so I'll just post what it looks like. @_@)
Smiling slightly, he opens his eyes, and holds out one hand. As soon as he's given the cards back, he spreads the cards out face up. After deliberately missing the queen of hearts by three cards, he picks up the chosen card and asks, "Is this your card?"

Aideen squeals in delight and nods. "That's it! That's it!" she annouces. "Wow!" Ann chuckles then all three children look slightly dizzy for a split second. As if nothing had happened, Ann glances at her watch and gasps. "Tuono! Aideen! We have to get home. We promised mum we'd watch Cassie tonight."
"Opps," Tuono says, giving his own watch a sheepish look. "Bye mister," he adds, picking up Aideen and hurrying out of the park with her and Ann close behind.
